Some pictures with the new

Leica 35mm f1.4 Summilux

I have been lucky enough to spend some time with a test copy of the new Leica 35mm f1.4 Summilux. I intend to link more pictures here as I get to spend some more time with the lens.

The new lens has a floating element, to reduce the ‘focus shift’ which was evident in the previous model, and to improve close focusing.

I’ll leave others to do a proper review of the lens, but of course I spent the first hour or so with the lens testing focus shift at different distances. Although it was still very slightly evident, with the focal point moving marginally forward as you stop down, it seems to me to be so small as to be inconsequential, the original point of focus now staying firmly in focus at all apertures.

The lens is a joy to work with, beautifully made with incredibly smooth focus and aperture, and the new design of lens shade is a great improvement on the previous models.

Click on the picture of the lens to get to the Leica website with specifications and details, click on the tulip picture to look at some images - these are some early samples, I hope to post some more in the next week or so.
